Strategic License Asset Management (SLAM)
Although desktop software is well served by specialists and automated tools, enterprise software, such as Oracle Database and other Oracle applications tend to be overlooked, as they are more difficult to manage.
Why this happens:
- Inventory "Discovery" is more complex and automated discovery tools are not yet effective for Oracle
- License grant/usage matching is complex and doesn't lend itself to the simpler desktop model
- The breadth of legacy licensing, combined with the rapid addition of new Oracle products - such as Siebel, JDE, Peoplesoft and BEA - runs ahead of the technology and knowledge base
That's why we developed the Strategic License Asset Management methodology (SLAM) for SAM. It helps Oracle clients take back control of their Oracle license estates, enables a deeper understanding of your Oracle licensing (including legacy and current agreements), license grant analysis and current actual usage position versus projected future demand.
The benefits:
- SLAM identifies the key information for Oracle and helps efficiently focus resource on discovery
- SLAM identifies key licence documents and alternative sources of data when records are not up-to-date
- SLAM applies the complexities of current and historical Oracle license rules to identify the compliance position
- SLAM helps you take control of your Oracle assets and get stakeholder buy-in
Oracle clients use SLAM:
- As part of a holistic SAM strategy - or as part of FAST accreditation
- To prepare for an Oracle LMS license review or audit, or to reduce the need for such a review
- As a platform for decisions on license architectures and models such as Unlimited License Agreements (ULA).
- As a component of data centre cost business case assessments
- To enable effective long term budgeting and planning for Oracle license and support spend
- To understand their Oracle position as a platform for an Oracle cost reduction exercise (20% cost reductions are typical if well managed)
- To take their Oracle license estates into control and generate ongoing demonstrable cost savings
